How Massage Envy Started
Massage Envy was founded in 2002 with a simple, but elegant vision. The founder of Massage Envy, John Leonesio, had a simple goal… He wanted more people to enjoy the therapeutic, stress‐relieving benefits of massage. John wanted to bring massage therapy out of the elite and expensive circle and make it available to everyone by offering affordable, convenient, professional massage services.
John knew that most people do not receive massages on a regular basis because of the associated cost and the difficulty of finding convenient times and locations. So John found massage therapists who shared his vision and wanted more people to take advantage of their services, and together they went to work. John had only planned on opening ten clinics in Arizona. He had no idea when he started his company in 2002, that it would be met with such high demand and success. His concept took off so well that soon other people started asking how they could share in the success, and offer the same benefits in their communities. So in 2003, with increasing demand from customers and business people, Massage Envy began franchising. Currently we have over 800+ open clinics, and we open 3 to 4 more clinics a week! In just a few short years, Massage Envy has become the largest provider of Massage therapy in the United States. Massage Envy is in almost every state.
